A Little Information About Truncated Dome's

Truncated Domes are one of the newer kids on the block when it comes to ADA compliance.  Though they have been around since the early 90’s in the US, they were suspended for a small period of time around 1994.  However, since 2001 they have become officially required again and many people are still a bit confused about what they are and where they go.

Empire-PLS has been installing truncated domes and truncated mats for over 6 years.  In this time we have learned a lot about what works, and what doesn’t work in terms of product choices. Empire-PLS installs a system called SSTD.  The reason we offer this system over all the other mat choices to our many accounts is based on a few simple factors. A Few More Reasons to Consider Our Domes

A few other things we have learned about using the SSTD system over others, is that SSTD truncated dome mats have one of the lowest profiles in the industry.  This is important because it greatly reduces the trip hazard that other mats have created when they do start to fail.  Every truncated dome system eventually fails, and when they do they often create this risky scenario. When installed correctly the SSTD system will not create this risky trip hazard, even after the system starts to break down.  Another great reason to use our system is that our system can be re-painted and repaired easily.  This is good because other truncated dome tiles and truncated dome mats are made of materials that cannot be repainted and once they start to age from weather and wear, or they just start to look worn.  These types of mats need to be replaced completely and that gets costly.  Our system is made to be repainted and repaired again and again.
