Small Shopping Center Gets Core Drilling and New Signs Installed.

This week Empire Parking Lot Services was hired to fix some signs at a local shopping center in Tustin California. If you are unfamiliar with the city of Tustin it is located in Orange County and is surrounded by the cities of Orange, Santa Ana, Irvine, and Portola Hills. This project was a sign repair and replacement project where the customer had a some damaged signs that needed to be fixed.  Our professional crews showed up and used our core drilling equipment to cut out the old signs, and then installed new ones as needed.

About this Orange County Concrete Core Drilling Project

Before we could fix our customers signs and install new ones we had to remove an existing broken sign post using a core drilling machine.  This equipment basically works like a drill, but instead of the drill bit being  the bit on the end uses a diamond tipped bit that cuts can shaped holes in diameters that range from 3 inches to 10 inches. Irvine Business Ceradyne Needed Steel Bollards Installed

So when Ceradyne Corp needed work done in there parking lot who did they call? You guessed it right Empire Parking Lot Services. This week we received a phone call from Ceradyne located in Irvine California. Irvine is located in South Orange County surrounded by cities such as El Toro, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, & Newport Beach. Ceradyne needed some steel bollards installed in their parking lot to protect an area where some of their employees eat lunch outside.  Ceradyne figured that since this area is near the parking lot they should take precautions and install some steel bollards to protect the area in question. Empire was called and we went out to their location and bid to install 5 steel barricades in the asphalt of their parking lot. Here is how the project turned out.

About the Bollard Installation Project in Irvine California.

Ceradyne loved the price so they scheduled the work for the next week. We showed up and barricaded the area off from the general public. Safety First!  Once the area was safe to work in we set up our core drilling equipment. Empire uses state of the art equipment including small and large core drilling rigs. These rigs are bolted down for operator safety and leave only tiny holes behind that are then patched with quickcrete.  After the holes where cored we placed the steel bollards into the holes and made sure they where level.  After the poles were set to a true position we concreted in the base to a depth of about 2 feet. After the concrete base has had a chance to set for about 30 minutes we then filled all of the steel bollards with cement as well. After all the bollards where placed and cemented in we cleaned them up and painted them OSHA safety yellow with a special epoxy paints made just for this purpose. We installed approximately 5 bollards and the project was completed in just less than 4 hours.

Irvine Business Gets New Bollards Installed

New Bollard Installation in Santa Ana, Ca.

This month Empire Parking Lot Services installed 8 new bollards and signs at the Santa Ana Children Youth Center. When we got the call from the youth center they needed an installer for 8 new bollards at their facility. As we mentioned before the project was in Santa Ana California. For those not familiar with this area it is in the heart of Orange County with surrounding cities such as Costa Mesa, Garden Grove, Stanton, & Fountain Valley. This bollard installation project was pretty straight forward in that the bollards where to be installed to protect a class room from the possibility of a car losing control and crashing through the class room wall. The contractor wanted something strong so we went with a steel bollard that was specially treated to accept and hold the 2 part epoxy coating we applied to the post. These bollards are installed 3 feet deep into the ground and filled with concrete to add to their strength. Once painted they are an attractive addition to your parking lots safety structures.

Bollards Installed in LA This Week!

So this week we were asked to install some steel bollards on a few job sites throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. If you’re not familiar with bollards just click the link above that says bollards, and it will take you to a Google images page showing you some. Our customer was a small grocery chain that needed to protect the front of their store, from cars accidentally driving into the glass and walls. The reason some stores need bollards is typically because they don’t have a curb face. This store needed steel bollards to not only protect their walls and columns but some customer seating as well. If a person driving a car accidentally hit the gas instead of a brake pedal then they could wipe out an entire family. Our customer was proactive about adding these bollards as a precaution.

About This Bollard Project

When we got to this job it was very early in the morning. It was important for us to get an early start to beat the shoppers and cars that we knew would be pouring into that area of work. The process of installing steel bollards is a tricky one in that there are three basic steps. The first step is to stage the job including barricades & layout. The Second step is to core drill the holes for the bollards to go into. The holes have to be as wide if not slightly wider than the diameter of the bollard being installed. Furthermore, the steel bollards have to be installed 3 feet deep into the ground in order for them to slow or stop any kind of traffic. Bollards by design are not meant to stop traffic or vehicles but what people have discovered over time is that they do. Some custom bollards can be installed that are truly rated to stop a vehicle up to a certain speed but in these applications steel pipe filled with concrete is the most affordable alternative to the very expensive rated ones. After the bollards where cemented in we added a protective plastic sheath that is designed to make the plain steel bollards look better as well as last longer by protecting them from the elements.
